Áine Hynes is a partner with St Johns Solicitors, Dublin. Áine is widely recognised as Ireland’s leading expert in the area of Mental Health Law and is consulted by departments of state, the College of Psychiatrists and service providers for advice on the Mental Health Act and Capacity Law. She has liaised with many international leading experts in the area of Mental Health Law and Capacity and been involved in the formulation of submissions to Government on appropriate amendments to primary legislation.
Áine placed first in the competition for the MHC Legal Panel when it was established in 2006. She acted for the first patient detained under the Mental Health Act 2001 (the 2001 Act) and has participated in excess of 500 reviews, accumulating unparalleled expertise in the application of the 2001 Act.
