Biography

Brian Murphy is Financial Planning Manager at AXA Wealth. He joined the company from school and after being involved in a variety of roles in his early career, has spent the last 31 years delving into the murky world of UK personal taxation and trust law. He writes regularly in the trade press on personal taxation and trust-related issues and also lectures widely to IFAs, solicitors and accountants on these subjects. He is the joint author of the 12th, 13th and 14th editions of Houseman and Davies' Law of Life Assurance and is the author of the 24th and 25th editions of the Life Assurance & Pensions Handbook. He is a member of the ABI Investment Product Tax Panel and the ABI FATCA Working Group as well as the TISA FATCA Working Group. He also sits on the EU Experts Group in Brussels which is looking into the possible extension of the EU Savings Directive to cover life assurance policies. Brian is an enthusiastic, albeit distinctly average tennis player and much the same can be said about his golfing prowess. He is a keen supporter of Essex County Cricket Club, something which has given him a great deal of pleasure down the years, and an equally keen supporter of Leyton Orient, something which for almost 40 years, with a few notable exceptions, has generally given him very little pleasure indeed. Brian is married and has twin daughters who he adopted from China in 2004. He lives just outside Chelmsford.
