Ben Staveley was educated at Wisbech Grammar School and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He joined the law firm Freshfields (now Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) and became a partner there in 1987. Since retiring from practice at the firm in 2002 he has taught writing and drafting skills, initially within Freshfields and more recently on a freelance basis. He has also taught and spoken about the subject at various universities. In 2017 he self-published a short book on grammar: ‘Faultless Grammar: the busy lawyer’s reminder guide’. This is his second book. Married with five mostly grown-up children, Ben lives in Putney.
